CERAMIC METAL COMPOSITE HYBRID BLOCKS FOR ALUMINIUM FURNACE

Critical Area in Aluminium Furnace

The melting bath Zone and discharge area of the Aluminium furnace are considered the most critical areas while melting Aluminium.

These areas undergo the highest degree of output from the furnace and are prone to constant corrosion effects. The Refractory block is subjected to corrosion from Molten Liquid, high temperatures and high thermal load. Failure in this area causes unexpected stoppages.

Focus by Sharadaa Ceramics

Sharadaa has been working on extending the Aluminium Furnace Melting Bath zone Block life by addressing the dynamics of the melting bath zone.

Three factors determine the longevity of the Furnace campaign. They are:

  1. Frequent Cyclical Operations – Requiring Thermal Shock Resistance
  2. Impact due to dross build-up – Warranting Toughness in the structure
  3. Exposure of Metallic Parts to Temperature – Necessitating Hybrid Composite

The Hybrid is a Combination of Refractory and Metal in a carefully Proportioned Mixture to get the best out of both materials. The campaign life of the Bottom Blocks can be increased if one applies Product selection effectively.

The following property requirements have addressed the primary criteria for Product development:

  1. Excessive Compressive Strength
  2. Resistance to Thermal Shocks
  3. Exceptional resistance to Impact
    Mechanically
  4. Ease of Bolting to the Same Structure as Steel or Cast Iron

Sharadaa Ceramics has built-in Competency in Technology and has established a performing product for demanding applications in the furnace by combining both ceramic and Metal usage.

The Product is governed by high temperatures Refractory and reinforced with a steel matrix system to achieve the best of both worlds.
